The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) works to record and maintain the graves of military service members who died in the two World Wars. The non-profit organization was founded by Sir Fabian Ware, and it is comprised of six independent member states. The Commission maintains approximately 23,000 sites in 150 countries worldwide. The Commission’s principles are to create permanent, uniform memorials with no distinction made based on military or civil rank, race or creed.
