The MLK Memorial was constructed on a four-acre site along the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC to commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King. The memorial has quotes from Dr. King’s sermons and speeches inscribed within the surface of the walls. The landscape experience is designed to convey the themes of democracy, justice, hope and love, which Dr. King embraced. The original dedication was slated for August until Hurricane Irene postponed the event just days before it was scheduled to take place. President Obama is expected to speak at the dedication ceremony that will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011.
