The temporary Flight 93 National Memorial is transitioning to a permanent memorial. The initial phase of the memorial is scheduled for completion in September 2011. The National Park Service recently received a gift of 40 sweet gum trees representing each passenger that died in Somerset County on 9/11. To date, a visitor shelter, a memorial wall, and parking areas have been completed. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for September 10th at the site, and a commemorative service will be held on September 11th marking the 10-year anniversary.
