Spring has finally arrived. It will soon be time to plant colorful flowers in your gardens to enjoy during the warm summer months.

As the cemeteries in our community also prepare for spring beautification, Bernard “Buzzy” Stoecklein, president of Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, reminds residents that spring is the perfect time to remember loved ones with seasonal tributes, with grave decorations.

There’s a sign at the entrance to Restland Memorial Park that reads:
Show me the manner in which a nation or community cares for its dead, and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land, and their loyalty to high ideals.

We believe that the way we show love and respect to our loved ones who have gone before us is to honor their memories through memorialization and special tributes during the year.

Restland Memorial Park is currently offering families and friends an opportunity to have grave decorations placed in tribute to their loved ones who chose Restland Memorial Park as their final resting place.

Tributes available include a palm cross for Palm Sunday, a planter for Easter, and floral bouquets for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. A bouquet with a flag is offered for Memorial Day.

For families who choose to place their own tributes on the graves of their loved ones at Restland, Stoecklein reminds them that fresh cut flowers are permitted throughout the cemetery year round; but artificial flowers will be removed from April through October, to permit cemetery maintenance employees to care for the lawn during the growing season.

Stoecklein also reminds families to visit the cemetery’s website at, and click on the Restland Memorial Park link on the left, to request the complete list of rules and regulations related to items permitted on graves.

For more information about Restland’s seasonal tributes, stop by the office at 77 DeForest  Avenue, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or call 973-887-2050.
