Matthews International Cremation Division has developed an eco-friendly flameless cremation process called BIO Cremation™. The process uses a chemical called potassium hydroxide (KOH) and it is commonly found in many health and beauty cosmetics, soft soaps and cleaning supplies.
BIO Cremation takes 2-3 hours and it is similar to the natural process that happens in a casket over a few decades. BIO Cremation aims to reduce the carbon footprint in order to help address the emission of greenhouse gases and climate change. It uses 8 times less energy than traditional flames and the electricity consumption is nominal.
