Involvement of CMS Chairman Helps New Jersey Cemetery

Since founding Friends of Rural Cemeteries in 2000, CMS Chairman Bernard "Buzzy" Stoecklein has been helping cemeteries in need.  Most recently Stoecklein and the non-profit organization reached out and provided assistance to Greenwood Cemetery Association in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Lakewood</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">New Jersey</st1:State></st1:place>. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p> In 2003, the <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">County</st1:PlaceType> of <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Ocean</st1:PlaceName> attempted to take a portion of <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Greenwood</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Cemetery</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>’s frontage along <st1:Street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">Cedar Bridge Avenue</st1:address></st1:Street> to widen the road.  The County only offered the cemetery $37,300 for the property.  While attending a New Jersey Cemetery Association board meeting, Stoecklein learned of the county’s inadequate offer.  Through Friends of Rural Cemeteries, he retained legal counsel to assist Greenwood Cemetery Association in receiving a fair market value for the land.  Stoecklein also served as an appraiser regarding the property’s value. <o:p> </o:p> Recently, after more than three years of negotiations, the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Ocean</st1:PlaceType> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">County</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> agreed to a settlement of $137,500.  A portion of the funds will be used for cemetery operations and the remainder will be placed in the maintenance and preservation fund.  <o:p> </o:p> “The time and effort spend by Mr. Stoecklein on this matter is reflective of his generosity and is a credit to the industry,” explained Laura Leacy Kyler, the attorney who helped reach the <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Greenwood</st1:place></st1:City> settlement.  “His assistance and guidance were invaluable in reaching a successful resolution of this matter on behalf of the Cemetery.” <o:p> </o:p> <o:p> </o:p> 10 application/xml false Bernard Buzzy Stoeckelein cemetery CMS Mid-Atlantic death dying Greenwood Cemetery New Jersey Cemetery Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 WebMaster false true false false true 117783 blog blogsite/CMSMidAtlantic/web
