As Halloween approaches, pumpkins, corn stocks and “Rest In Peace” door hangers can be found on homes throughout New Jersey. The door hangers are not intended to be holiday decorations — they offer local residents an opportunity to obtain Certificates of Entitlement, for a grave at no charge, at CMS Mid-Atlantic-affiliated cemeteries and memorial parks.

“We are reaching out to the communities we serve to offer our neighbors an opportunity to arrange for their burial before the time of need at considerable savings,” explains Bill Passodelis, vice president of CMS.

According to Mr. Passodelis, advance planning offers many benefits that include:

Couples can make important decisions together

A large selection of lots in beautifully landscaped gardens

Guarantee of today’s pricing

Flexible savings plans

Peace of mind that final wishes will be carried out

CMS-affiliated cemeteries include:

Alpine Cemetery

703 Amboy Avenue

Perth Amboy, NJ 08861

www.alpinecemetery.com

1-800-CMS-1981

Greenwood Cemetery

1800 Hamilton Avenue

Hamilton, NJ 08619

www.cmsmidatlantic.com/greenwood.php

1-800-CMS-1981

Hollywood Memorial Park

1500 Stuyvesant Avenue

Union, NJ 07083

www.cmsmidatlantic.com/hollywood.php

1-800-CMS-1981

Laurel Grove Cemetery

295 Totowa Road

Totowa, NJ 07083

www.cmsmidatlantic.com/laurelgrove.php

1-800-CMS-1981

Restland Memorial Park

77 DeForest Avenue

East Hanover, NJ 07936

www.cmsmidatlantic.com/restland.php

1-800-CMS-1981

From now through November 30, 2008, families who receive the announcement at their homes, as well as anyone who wants to receive the Certificate of Entitlement, can call Blythe Stoecklein at 1-800-CMS-1981 to learn about the benefits of receiving the Certificate.

Some people spend their professional lives going from job to job — company to company in search of the perfect position — or in some instances — their passions. That’s not the case for Richard J. Goss, a regional manager for CMS Mid-Atlantic, Inc. In October, Mr. Goss celebrated his 30th anniversary in the cemetery industry — at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, New Jersey, where he began his career as a mechanic. Today, Mr. Goss oversees maintenance operations for the five New Jersey cemeteries affiliated with CMS Mid-Atlantic. In addition to Greenwood, those cemeteries include: Alpine Cemetery, Hollywood Memorial Park and Cemetery, Laurel Grove Cemetery and Restland Memorial Park. Of course Mr. Goss didn’t’ rise from mechanic to regional manager over night. He also served as the vice president of Greenwood Cemetery.

“I enjoy my work,” says Mr. Goss. “My father always instilled in me that no matter what you do, ‘give it your all.’”

When Mr. Goss started working at Greenwood Cemetery, the property was operated by Herbert Moore. “Mr. Moore was like an adopted father to me,” says Mr. Goss. He taught me a great deal about cemetery operations and how to provide a high level of service to families.”

When CMS Mid-Atlantic assumed management of Greenwood, under the leadership of cemetery veteran Bernard (Buzzy) Stoecklein, Jr., Mr. Goss approached the change with cautious optimism.

“I was very impressed when I first met Buzzy,” says Mr. Goss. “I asked questions and he was straightforward. He gave honest responses. His level of care was very comforting. It’s a great honor working for Buzzy. I take my responsibility of looking after his properties very seriously and take great pride in my role with CMS.”

According to Mr. Stoecklein, Mr. Goss serves as a mentor to the maintenance crews at the CMS-affiliated cemeteries. “Rich has a natural rapport with the maintenance staff. He appreciates their hard work and gives them a great deal of respect, and they in turn hold him in high esteem. The CMS-affiliated cemeteries and the families they serve are fortunate to have someone as caring and dedicated as Mr. Goss overseeing the maintenance of the properties.”
