Our Costs Are Covered

Before you read any further, please note that CMS' properties all have financially sound preservation funds that provide for the on-going maintenance of the properties.

However, some cemeteries are not as financially secure. As Tacoma Washington's The News Tribune reports today, "historic Woodbine Cemetery hasn’t made enough revenue to cover its operating costs for years." In an effort to be more fiscally solvent, city officials are relying on a new cremation facility and a rate hike to help the cemetery's funding.

According to the article, "the city’s proposed budget for the cemetery in 2010 includes $18,000 for a new columbarium, which will contain 144 niches that can hold urns with cremated ashes.

"After the columbarium is installed, the price of a single niche in the cemetery will rise from $850 to $2,325, according to new cemetery rates the Puyallup City Council approved earlier this month."
