| November 16, 2009 | | United Press International reports that a mother dying of cancer in Australia is forced to exhume her deceased son's remains because she cannot afford to pay Fawkner Cemetery the $1,846 they wanted to extend the lease for another 25 years, or $3,231 to sell her the plot forever. The press service reports that the woman had been given a number of alternatives, including placing her son's remains in a memorial wall for no fee. A representative from the cemetery is reported as saying that under the Cemetery and Cremation act, they have fulfilled their obligation to the family. | | |
