Students Benefit from Family’s Generosity

Stoecklein Family Establishes Scholarships

The members of the Stoecklein Family are committed to giving back to the communities they serve. They also believe that while cemeteries and memorial parks are the best places to mark the graves of loved ones, there are other means to honor the memories of those who go before us and help others at the same time.

“CMS is a good neighbor. We feel that it is a privilege that families place their trust in us to help them during their time of sadness,” said Mr. Stoecklein. “At CMS, we want to our communities to know that we are always there for them when they need us.”

Realize Your Dream Scholarship

Bernard E. Stoecklein is president and CEO of CMS Mid-Atlantic, Inc. a company that provides financial, marketing and consulting services, as well as business development processes to the cemetery industry throughout New Jersey and New York. A strong advocate of education, Mr. Stoecklein established the CMS Realize Your Dream Foundation to provide financial support to high school seniors who are pursuing collegiate studies. The CMS Realize Your Dream Foundation offers this wonderful opportunity in the communities in which CMS-affiliated properties are located. “This program has roots that date back to the 1950s,” said Mr. Stoecklein. “My father made an indelible impression on me that we give back to the community.”

Scholarship to Honor a Friend

Mary DiLascia, who passed away in 2008, devoted her life to helping others. Serving as a family service counselor at Vestal Hills Memorial Park (a CMS-affiliated property in Binghamton, New York), she assisted families from the area with their burial arrangements — giving them the peace of mind that their wishes would be carried out with compassion and care.

To honor Mary’s memory, Mr. Stoecklein, the Board of Directors of CMS Mid-Atlantic and the management of Vestal Hills Memorial Park established the Mary DiLascia Memorial Scholarship — a $5,000 scholarship that is awarded annually to students attending St. Bonaventure University.

“St. Bonaventure, which has many alumni in the Vestal area, has a similar ideology and values as CMS,” said Mr. Stoecklein who serves on the university’s board of trustees.

Seton Catholic Central High School

This spring, CMS has taken its commitment to helping students pursue a quality education in a new direction with a scholarship in the name of Mary DiLascia at Seton Catholic Central High School (in Binghamton, New York). Mr. Stoecklein committed $2,000 for the fall 2009 semester — $500 for each of four students, based on need. As a Catholic school, Seton welcomes students of all faiths, educational needs, and diverse backgrounds. They have a special education department to help students with disabilities. Each year, the school’s graduation rate is nearly 100 percent with 95 to 100 percent of the graduates attending college

“We pride ourselves in our sense of community,” said John Colonna, a counselor at Seton Catholic. “We call ourselves a family and try to treat everyone as such. I'd like to think that that's where Mary reinforced her love of life and family values. We are very much appreciative to CMS and the Mr. Stoecklein for establishing this scholarship in Mary’s name to help our students.”
